Reflection on Blog

Early in  the year, I learned the importance of film-making. You can see that on my first film, Baler Interviews, I didin't even know how to upload videos to youtube. I also didin't understand how to use Premiere Pro. I had to watch my partner edit a big part of the video so I can then do it. The first video was difficult for me. On my second video, Extracting and Overlays, I did a little better. I learned how to use Premiere Pro much better. I wrote in my reflection that I didin't know how to make the titles that go with the videos, but know Im actually pretty good at it. I got got better as we kept making more videos. At first, I realized that i don't like being in videos, what I like is doing them and editing. It was really difficult for me to understand at first how you do clips and how Premiere Pro works because im not a fast learner. But with time, I did much better and I understood more by the second semester.

What I learned in this class is that making films is not an easy thing to do. When I watch films now, I think about what I've learned this year. I see the different types of shots they use, over the shoulder shots, and angles. I also lerned how this class works. Im much better at editing films, using Premiere Pro, uploading videos to you tube and to my blog. I also see that even a 30 seconds commercial or clip takes kind of a long time. First they have to write a script, which actually does help to organize how you want your video. Then you have to see what type of shots you have to use to get the message across in your video. Making films is not an easy thing but this whole year I've learned how to do it in my teledramatic arts class.

Final Video

This is a film based on interviews about students at San Benito. They wanted to say good bye and thank a teacher that helped them this year. I think this is a good video so that the teachers can see that the students appreciate their help. They are going to miss their teachers and before they leave, they want to thank a teacher.

A boy With a Dream

In this story, Cesar and I were trying to evoke the idea that we need to learn to forgive. This story is about a kid who is playing baseball but he accidentally breaks a man's car window. It starts off that he is lonely in the park but then his friends come over to him and ask him to play baseball. He didin't mean to, but he broke a car window. The owner of the car shows up and seems mad but he smiles at the boy and says everything is okay. He didin't want the kid to feel bad by screaming at him, so he tells him to continue playing the game. At the end of the day, the sun is going down and the kids still don't want to leave, but they know they have to go home so they walk away into the sunset. I like how the image of the window turned out, it was a few seconds. This image was used to show that the boy was scared and didin't know what to do after breaking someone's window. Different effects were added to the video to show a type of illusion and abstract. The whole video has some abstract in it. Colors were used to suggest the mood to show the fear, the sadness, and the happiness of the story. There are some colors that just go with the emotions the boy was feeling. I learned that music is very important in a video. It shows emotions, like if someone were sad, you would have a sad song, and it's the same for other emotions. My partner, Cesar, chose the abstract that goes with the images. Picking the images was a little hard. We needed to find the pictures that described our story and what we want the viewers to understand.

Special Effects

For the first effect, you choose “wave warp” in the “distort” folder. You want to adjust the height of the wave to 33. Changing the Direction to 128 shifts the angle at which the waves look. You might use this as a transition into a flashback. For the secnd effect, you choose “strobelight” in the “Stylize” folder. You want to adjust the strobe perod to .9, the strobe duration to .5 and random strobe probability to 9%. You might use this effect to simulate flashing lights from cameras, paparazzi. For the third effet, you choose lens flare in the generate folder. You want to adjust the flare center at 288, 192 to -22, 329. You might use this effect to emphazise how bright the sun is shining to simulate summer time. Joselyn and John

Comments and Suggestions

This post is from Joselyn and John.
The positive comments that were most meaningful to us were from Kaycee and Kelsey and Michaela C. and Ashley T. Kaycee/Kelsey told us that the music worked well in the beginning, and that was helpful because it showed us that we were able to create the mood that we were going for. In addition, Michaela/Ashley told us that the pan of the the last slice was very effective, and that helped us see that certain shots help build and emphasize certain points.

The two best suggestions we got were from Kaycee/Kelsey and Chris/Brad.

Kaycee/Kelsey suggested that we find a way to make the pizza not disappear in the light. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to use another clip that focuses on the pizza and then cut back to Jacob giving the pizza.

Chris/Brad suggested that we cite our sources. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is by finishing our credits.
Positive comments
We especially like the pan-over of the pizza and table at the beginning of the video because is helped emphasize the idea of the last peice of pizza.-Michaela C. and Ashely T.
What we liked best was the use of the house as a background and the edits- Brad and Chris
The music was worked well in the beginning when they were watching tv; it created a laid back feeling.-Kelsey and Kaycee
We also like the close up of both guys when they are confused about hearing the voice, and the high angle of them looking around the room-Kelsey and Kaycee
We especially like the close up shot of John on the floor because it showed that Jake won the pizza-Isaiah and Cesar
We especially like the close up shot of john on the floor beacause it helped emphasize that they had just fought. –Michaela and Cole

Suggestions
We would just suggest shortening the fade-out clip after the fight-Michaela C. and Ashely T.
You could add to the resolution by showing some more facial expression, this would help us see how they feel about giving/recieving the pizza.-Chris and Brad
Our stongest suggestion is somehow fixing the disappearing pizza when jacob is holding it at the end.-Kelsey and Kaycee
cite your sources because you can get into trouble for that-chris and brad

Just Pizza

REFLECTION 1) What value are you trying to represent? - In our video we're representing sharing as our value. 2) What do you think your group has done well? - I think that our group has put ideas together well and decided how to combine them to improve our video. 3) What do you still need to complete? - We need to add the eding of the video as well as the voice over. 4) What are you most in need of feedback about? (We want to know if..., We're wondering if this camera angle worked when...etc.) - We want to know if we got the point of sharing easily understood in our video. 5) Identify a challenge your group discovered and faced in creating the film. Focus on a challenge about how to best tell your story. Describe how you dealt with that challenge, including discussions you had, things you tried and decided to leave out, and what you ultimately did to address it. - One challenged we faced was that not everyone on our group was in the film. we dealt with this situation by continuing to film with a different set up. Edited Video

In this video there was rule of thirds. The camera focused on both Jacob and Morgan. The over the shoulder shots show the expressions of each character. It showed when Jacob was not that excited and the camera focused on his expression. Close ups show the character's face and if they are mad, sad or happy. There were a lot of close ups in this clip to show the emotions and expressions in their face. This was challenging to edit because I had to put it all together but I think I did a good job on it. The mood of Morgan is happy and there was a close up on Jacob to show that he was kind of dissapointed. This exercise is to show what the characters are feeling just by looking at their face and also to show over the shoulder shots wich are used when a character is talking. This is what over the shoulder shots are useful for.

Holiday Greetings

I think my partner and I did well on the music and the border we added. We did our script the best we could do it. What would have been nice to do was what Michelle and Taylor did by how they went from one video to another. I liked this because it was just really nice and creative. Me and Kaycee did the same work because I edited my clip and she did hers. If I had another chance to complete this, I would probably change the music because it didin't really go with the places we were in. But that's the only thing I would change because I like how we did our video.

Blog Reflection

I think my group abd I did really good on our final video. We got a list of things we needed to fix and we did them. We worked together and tried our best on this project. We explained what cyberbullying is very well. We also got opinions from other students. I liked the feedback that we got because it helped a lot and we fixed our mistakes. I also liked giving other people feedback because that helped them a lot too with their final videos.

5 things I learned

I liked this video a lot.One thing I learned is that it is important to put titles to introduce the people. It is also important to cut between a long interview and add something. This group made titles but you can also make it fade away. I also learned how to make clean cuts.

5 things I learned

I learned many thing about this video. First, this team made a few changes and they made it even better than it was before. I liked how Jacob was walking in the hallways. That makes the video a little more dramatic because you may not know when someone might be cyberbullied. They facts were good and they explained very well what cyberbulling is. They showed cellphones and I liked that beacuse it showed that people cyberbully through texting or the internet.

Greenscreen

By editing this images, I learned that sometimes when you make a green screen, you can have some trouble. For example like taking of a shadow. We tried to dissapear it but we couldn't completely do it. We are going to learn hoe to make backrounds when making a video. It is important to know how to edit a video with a backround because we need to make our best in making it look good.

Two things people really liked about our video were the type of music we picked and how the video started showing how Chris was cyberbullied. One thing that we need to fix is the beggining. It started off with a black screen and music. The music was a little too loud and we need to cut off a couple of seconds beacuse it took too long. The credits also need to be fixed beacuse we did slides and that took too long. The feedback that they gave us will help a lot for our final video.

Title Workshop

These are different types of titles. You use the first one when you want to introduce a title to a clip. You can use the other ones when you want to give a name of something or someone in the middle of the video. This is called an overlay title. When inserting titles to a clip, you have to make sure that the title dosen't cover the images. They should go on the corners, which are called low 3 degree titles. I learned how to make titles and that is really helpful for me because I can use this on another project we may have in this class.

Overlay_inserts

This is an example of an overlay edit. An overlay edit is placed on top of another clip. To do this, you drag a clip and place it right on top of your video. The difference between an overlay and an insert is that an overlay is placed on top of a video and an insert, you press the Ctrl button and drag the video down and it moves the clips over to the right. You can use an overlay when you want to replace a clip, while you'd use an insert edit when you feel that you're missing a part of a clip. In this case the insert works better because the video was missing something and I added another clip at the end.

Deleting/Extracting

A simple cut in the timeline means removing a clip while the other videos stay the same. A ripple delete is when you delete a clip, but the other videos come closer together. Lifting and extracting are two ways to remove clips. It is the same thing as doing a cut or a ripple delete. But it's easier because the buttons are already in the panels. This is an example of deleting clips.I decided to delete clips because there were some parts that were not necessary in this video.

Baler Interviews Reflection

I think I am getting better at editing videos. On my next project I need to remember how to upload the videos to you tube.I would like to learn how to make titles because I didin't really understand how to edit them. My partner helped me by talking me through on how to put my video on my blog.I did not help my partner because she knows more than I do and she mostly helped me.On this project I gained a better idea on how to edit videos because I didin't understand that. The only challenge I changed was on how to upload the videos but other than that I am understanding things better.I think I will do better on my next project.

Wet Cement

The message of this video is to be patient with others around you.It tries to tell you that eveb though you work hard you dont have to get angry.
